Goodbye Pool
At the 50 meter pool
There is sunshine
And lane lines
And lap swimmers who---
Kick, pull, flip, and glide
And lifeguards watching from up high
And a toddler that waddles
And a pair of goggles
And water that bubbles
And big kids getting into trouble
And sparkling blue water and a big sky
And space for freestyle, backstroke, breast, and fly...
Goodbye pool
Goodbye sun
Goodbye outdoor swimming fun
Goodbye kicking, pulling,
flipping and gliding
Goodbye lifeguards
Goodbye depression that has been hiding
Goodbye toddler that waddles
And goodbye
Goodbye bubbles
And kids in trouble
Goodbye sparkling blue water
Goodbye big sky
And goodbye free, breast, back and fly
Goodbye lane lines
Goodbye tan lines
Goodbye swimmers everywhere.
