Wine Tasting

I love wine, but what I love even more is wine tasting at actual vineyards. Vineyards are truly some of the most breathtakingly beautiful places on earth. They produce an energy of sophisticated country styled deliciousness. And, because wine is nearly always gluten free, I far prefer this activity to walking around a smelly indoor brewery (that's far more Brian's style). I do have to say that Stone Brewery in Escondido would be an exception, as they have done an amazing job with their garden, blending the outdoor scenery of a typical winery with what is supposed to be delicious craft beer ( I wouldn't know as they have yet to make a gluten free beer).

Brian and I are taking off for a hopefully relaxing weekend of wine tasting and festival hopping in Santa Barbara. Although I just heard that "Carmageddon" is taking place this weekend - they are closing down a major stretch of the 405 freeway - making traffic all throughout the LA area even more of a parking lot. I truly wish we could just cut LA out of California and mesh the San Diego and Santa Barbara together!

So in honor of my love of wine, I am just going to post a few pictures of wineries we have visited recently. One was an amazing winery in Lyons, CO. It featured a stocked pond for fishing, picnic tables, and even a trampoline and playground, all nestled into the beautiful Rocky Mountains. This was such a fun place and would have loved to have spent more time there when we were in Colorado, however, the time we were there it was most likely under snow every weekend we could have gone!

And, what the heck?! Virginia is wine country??? How the heck did I spend 21 years of my life right in the midst of wine country and not know it??? My parents recently moved "further out" from the city, and driving the country roads to get everywhere revealed a massive trail of wineries that traverse the gorgeous state. I visited two while I was with my parents a few weeks ago. La Grange was just 6 miles from their house in Haymarket. The historic building that housed the tasting room is haunted by two ghosts!

We went to Delaplane Cellars, which was off of 17 and just off of the Appalachian mountains, for my birthday. Here are some pics of the scenery...the beauty really made the wine taste so much better. They even had live jazz playing to set the mood.

Ok, we are off to Santa Barbara wine country to enjoy a wine festival, french festival, and/or citrus festival!
