Sharing learning objectives: some PE examples

At the beginning of the lesson it is advisable to share your main goals for this day, where you want your students arrive in the learning process of the unit.
So sharing learning objectives at the start of each subject topic is important:
  • To focus on the learner rather than the teacher
  • To help learners to understand what they should achieve
  • To help teachers to focus on what learners should know and be able to do by the end of a subject topic
  • To help teachers to plan and design tasks which help learners to achieve the outcomes
  • To provide a checklist to help teachers identify how far learners have achieved the outcomes
  • To provide a checklist to help teachers give feedback to learners.

Here I give you some PE examples I sometimes use.

  • Today you’ll find out how to identify your own fitness level.
  • By the end of this lesson, you’ll value how physical abilities are involved in different types of physical activities.
  • By the end of this unit, you’ll know how to plan a personal fitness program related to health.
  • In this topic you’ll discover how to adapt your sport techniques depending on stance taken by your team-mates and opponents.
  • By the end of today’s lesson, you’ll be able to interpret an orienteering map.
  • By the end of this topic, you’ll be able to explain why warm-up stage is so important to avoid injuries.
  • During this dancing topic, you’re going to show me that you can collaborate to design and perform a choreography.
We use you’llyou’ll be able to or you’re going to when we share learning objectives with learners.

As you notice verbs are going to show the way the students must "move" their mind and body tools to achieve the goal. Are you able to share the verbs you use in your learning objectives?
